I Personal Code of Ethics
I a The mediator is conscious of his personal state, physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. He ensures the harmony and integrity of his own systems, using himself the techniques that he proposes to his client.
I c The mediator reflects on the client’s situation personally and independently in order to avoid any overinvolvement or dependency on the client or anyone else; however he requests, if necessary, to be accompanied in this reflection by his supervisor.
I e The mediator assures his continuing professional evolution, in particular by participating in the ongoing training courses in the current and continually developing field of systemic practice; he keeps himself regularly informed about new developments and research.
II Code of Ethics in Relation to the Client
II a The mediator considers the service of the client, in his physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and systemic dimensions, to be his priority.
II c The mediator provides the highest possible quality of work, at the highest level of his own knowledge.
II h The mediator is attentive to only use methods that respect the cultural values and beliefs of the client. The mediator abstains from any form of religious, philosophical, spiritual, or ideological proselytism.
II i The mediator encourages his client to acquire a true sense of personal responsibility in order to attain the desired results.
III Code of Ethics in Relation to other Mediators, the Community, and the Environment
III a The mediator treats his colleagues with respect. He does not make disparaging remarks, neither publicly nor privately, about other mediators, practitioners, researchers, or innovators (and ideally about anyone). On the contrary, he supports and encourages research, debates, and professional exchanges.
III e The mediator commits himself to the general development of the politics of health and well-being in society, supporting activities that seek to establish a healthy systemic environment at the service of the general well-being.
III g The mediator collaborates in an ethically-sound way with professionals in related fields.
IV Code of Ethics in Relation to the Supervisor and Qualified Counsellors
IV a The mediator implements the advice of his supervisors without hesitation so as to optimise his clients’ well-being, and discusses with his supervisor his difficult cases or cases that pose a challenge to his methods.
V Code of Ethics in Relation to the Environment
V a The mediator ensures that he works in a respectful and healthy environment.
V b The mediator respects the confidentiality and private life of his client, never disclosing any information that may be confided to him.
V c The mediator explains to the client the theories upon which systemic techniques are based, providing him with the necessary information and adapting it to his level of understanding.
VI Code of Ethics in Relation to the Mediator’s Authorisation
VI a The mediator adheres to all of the ethical directives of his profession, respecting his country’s current legislation.
VI b The mediator is familiar with the ethical code of his profession and adopts its rules of conduct.
VII The Ethical and Certification Commissions
The members of the Ethical (12 members) and Certification (12 members) commissions are certified professionals, each commission consisting of: two medical practitioners, two clinical psychologists, two health counsellors, two education specialists, two business executives, and two business managers.
